We specialize in retraining off-the-track thoroughbred racehorses and problem horses. Our OTTB and PH (problem horses) retraining program is designed to transition horses from the track to second careers. Additional services include starting young horses under saddle, advancing the training of hunter, equitation, eventing, and dressage horses, and correcting ground manners and behavioral problems in difficult horses. Our approach to training creates a light, confident, and balanced horse. We customize our training programs in order to meet the individualized needs of each horse and rider combination. Our training program at Dogwood Knoll Farm includes groundwork (work in-hand), lunging, and riding. Our under-saddle work always focuses on the lateral and longitudinal training exercises necessary to create a balanced, supple, and relaxed horse that seeks contact with the bit. We also offer training services such as bridling, saddling, free schooling, longing, long-lining, and work in-hand. Our focus on a dressage based program can help your horse get started on the correct path for future work in any discipline.
Have you ever been injured by a horse? Have you ever had your foot stepped on by a horse? Horses' brains have been wired to remember the negative/ survival memories. These survival memories have evolved the need to remember danger, potential danger and to act as a herd when another horse is acting suspiciously. They don't always have the same thought patterns as humans, so if we plan to ride them, train them, teach them and teach with them it is in our best interests to understand them as much as possible. The next time a horse shies, bucks, kicks out or even if one stands on your foot, then try to understand from their point of view what made them do it. Real horse people don't blame horses; they only continue to deepen their understanding of them.

Letter of Recomendation
To Whom It May Concern:
Adrienne Brown is an extremely knowledgeable and effective horse trainer. She truly cares about the horse and her training extends beyond the time spent in the ring. My horse came to her underweight and with no muscle and Adrienne worked diligently to address and resolve these issues. She tailored the care and created a workout and riding plan specifically for my horse. Within four short months my mare went from unbroken to a well-trained and mature hunter horse. She collects, does changes, jumps, moves off my leg, half-passes, etc. Adrienne keeps her calm and happy. She has a very gentle position and a truly natural friendship with all horses. I have never once seen her lose her temper with any horse. She works out any issues very calmly. She is incredibly personable and obviously loves what she does. Her love of her job will most certainly be reflected in your horse and it’s training.
