Another huge aspect will be horsemanship skills, everything from properly putting on a standing wrap to lunging correctly. This is strongly encouraged for current team members, and is open to anyone in 6-12 grade who can ride well independently. Consider it a 5-day tryout, with a lot of fun mixed in! Horse Purchase Consultation
Do you wonder how to buy a horse and make the right choice? How many times have you looked at a horse for sale and fallen in love? Finding the perfect horse for you isn't an easy task.
Have you noticed how hard it is to find a site on the internet to give you good solid help on how to buy a horse? Often the information goes something like this:
"The first thing you need to do is find an honest seller".
"Be sure to find the right horse to suit you."
"Do your homework."
That's the kind of information that I consider telling you what to do but not HOW to do it.
How are you supposed to know which horse suits you? Consult your trainer. If you do not have one its very easy to obtain one. Call 434-566-4909.
What if the seller seems honest enough but you want to be sure you're protected? Again consult your trainer.
What exactly is that homework assignment?? Research the breed, take a trial, consult a vet for a pre-purchase exam; your trainer will help you with all this and more.
Most people who aren't professional trainers or who haven't spent their life with horses don't know how to evaluate a prospect. If you buy a horse based on a 'feeling' or impulse decision, you may come home with a horse that doesn't fit your abilities or personality - but by golly, he sure is a pretty color!
Bottom line for you is that you want to buy a horse you can bring home, ride and love. You also want to spend the least amount of money you can. Before you start shopping, educate yourself as much as possible by:
Takeing ridding lessons. Your instructor will let you know when your ready to own a horse and he/she can walk you through all the steps to horse ownership.
Going to horse shows
Talking to people in the horse community
Join a horse club
Lease a horse. This is a great way to take a step to horse ownership without diving in head first and is cheaper in most cases.
Allow yourself plenty of time to horse shop. Finding just the right one can take months or even a year. Armed with plenty of facts and research, you will come home with a horse you enjoy and love for many, many years. Whether you're looking to buy a quiet horse you can take on relaxing trail rides or one who can come home with blue ribbons or somewhere in between, I'd like to help.
Here is a list of what it costs to have a horse consultation. Horse Consultation, a 30 min sitdown session to talk about your wants and needs. Free for students, $25 for non-students Horse evaluation: $35 per horse for students, $45 for non-students Multiple horse evaluation: half day 9-12/12-5 $60 for chavell llc, $75 for non-students Multiple horse evaulation: whole day 9-5 $100 for chavell llc student, $115 for non-students Over night evaulations require the purchasee to pay trainer's hotel fees plus whole/half day evaluation. These prices are based on trainer riding with you to all places. If trainer doesn't ride with you there is a $0.30 travel fee.
